Student Research Program

An academic mentorship program open to motivated students in grades 9–12 from every school and region across Georgia.

How it works

From question to paper

  1. 01

    Apply

    Applicants submit a research idea they want to pursue, explaining the proposed topic, methodology, timeline, and why the project matters.

  2. 02

    Develop a Question

    Selected students refine a research question and begin reviewing the relevant literature.

  3. 03

    Work With a Mentor

    Students are matched with or work alongside an academic mentor who provides guidance throughout the project.

  4. 04

    Conduct Research

    Students carry out their research independently, with regular feedback and progress reviews.

  5. 05

    Write & Present

    Students produce a complete academic research paper and present their findings.

  6. 06

    Publish

    Strong papers may be submitted to the GSRC Journal for peer review.

Participation in the Research Program does not guarantee publication in the GSRC Journal. Journal submissions are evaluated independently through the review process.

Cycle 2026–27

Program timeline

Key dates for applications, mentorship, peer review, publication, and the annual symposium.

  1. August 20 – October 11

    Applications are open. Anonymous application review begins during this period.

  2. October 11 – November 9

    Qualified applicants are interviewed, finalists are selected, and mentorship decisions are released.

  3. November 16 – April 18

    Mentorship and independent research. Students submit monthly progress checkups.

  4. April 18 – May 23

    Feedback papers are reviewed, corrected, and submitted as final papers by May 23.

  5. June 7 – 12

    Publication decisions go out June 7, the journal launches June 10, and the symposium is held June 12.

The program is designed for motivated students in grades 9–12 across Georgia who are ready to conduct substantial independent research with faculty mentorship.
